Biography
She received her B.Sc. from Nanjing University in 2008, her M.Sc. in Environmental Science from Yale University in 2010, and her Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Yale University in 2016, supervised by Prof. Julie Zimmerman. She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University with Prof. Edgar Hertwich from 2016 to 2017. Before joining Nanjing University in 2025, she held assistant professor positions at the University of Twente and Leiden University in the Netherlands. Dr. Wang’s research focuses on environment–economy systems modelling and low-carbon sustainability transitions. Her work examines carbon emissions, resource use, and environmental responsibility in industrial systems, infrastructure, and global supply chains. Her research has been published in leading journals including Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Geoscience, Nature Communications, The Lancet Planetary Health, and Environmental Science & Technology.
Her work also engages with international policy and scientific platforms on sustainability transitions, environmental accounting, and industrial transformation. She has led or contributed to research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences–Dutch Research Council programme, the European Research Council, Horizon Europe, and the U.S. National Science Foundation. She is an expert member of the ISO–GHG Protocol joint working group on revising ISO 14067 on quantification of product carbon footprints and an expert contributor to the OECD Infrastructure Data Initiative. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Industrial Ecology.
